The LIO program assists with the modernization of land records and land information systems, and the deployment and use of GIS data and technology at Dane County. We can assist you with:
Land Records system modernization planning and implementation
Acquiring GIS software and hardware
Training (ESRI software, DCiMap and Surveyors Office)
GIS technical support
Investigating geospatial technology and equipment
GIS data acquisition and distribution
Custom map products

GTAG (GIS Technical Advisory Group)
GTAG shares technical and project information on a regular basis, as well as meeting for special workshops and participation in events such as GIS Day.
Enterprise GIS Migration
The LIO completed a project to migrate and implement a number of critical GIS components to further land records modernization and the establishment of an enterprise-wide system. This was driven by the need to stay current with changes in technology, better serve the County's growing demand for and sophistication in use of GIS, and better integrate GIS with County business information systems. Critical technical components that was migrated included enterprise GIS data layers, ArcInfo software licenses, desktop ArcView software licenses, and priority GIS data maintenance and end-user application. Particular GIS data maintenance applications that was migrated include for parcel maintenance, address maintenance, and farm planning and tract/field maintenance.
Parcel Data Maintenance Process Improvement
The LIO completed the development of GIS-based tax parcel maps (with the exception of the Village of Maple Bluff) in 2000 and transferred parcel map maintenance responsibilities to the Department of Planning and Development. In 2007, the Planning Department and the LIO developed a parcel maintenance process and application which addressed the following issues:
re-engineering workflows and introducing process improvements to gain staff efficiencies and improve data quality and currency
identifying and separating data maintenance and data enhancement activities
processing updates transactionally rather than the geographically-based batch process used for initial map development
clarifying roles and responsibilities for parcel data maintenance and technical support
implementing new GIS technology to support parcel map maintenance
The LIO continues to update and maintain our on-line mapping application (DCiMap). Please contact the LIO if you would like a GIS layer to be added to DCiMap. The LIO also will provide support on DCiMap procedures including creating mailing labels.
