Why was the data set created?

The municipal boundary dataset was created to fill the need for a county wide representation of the civil division boundaries. The dataset is intended for cartographic use and general spatial analysis.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

    (source 1 of 1)
Dane County Department of Planning and Development, Dane County Tax Parcel Data: Dane County Land Information Office, Madison, Wisconsin.

This is part of the following larger work.

Dane County Department of Planning and Development, Dane County Tax Parcel Map: Dane County Department of Planning and Development, Madison, WI.

    Source_Scale_Denominator: 4800

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    (process 1 of 2)
The boundary information was extracted from the annual archive of parcel data, dated December 31, 2006. The linework coded as CITY or TOWN in the Tax Parcel dataset was extracted and merged into a single county wide coverage. Minor errors were corrected and the coverage was built for topology. Label points were placed in the coverage from the previous year's coverage. Corrections to the attribute information were made as necessary and the reviewed or completeness.
