Why was the data set created?

This information is intended for cartographic use, general spatial analysis and as a spatial index to land related information. It is not intended for site specific analysis.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

    (source 1 of 1)
Dane County Land Information Office, Daen County Hydrography - Polygons: Dane County Land Information Office, Madison, Wisconsin.

    Source_Scale_Denominator: 2400

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    (process 1 of 2)
The hydrology was created as part of the Fly Dane 2000 project. The dataset was produced from breaklines created in the terrain modeling process. Additional linework was added through photo interpretation to include intermittant stream. The DNR 24,000 scale hydrography data was use as a reference data layer to code the linework.

    (process 2 of 2)
The hydrography linework from of the Fly Dane 2005 project was used to update the linework. Linework from the coverage version that followed the outline of polygons was removed. Network connectivity was develop by linking linework across polygon features. The DNR 24,000 scale hydrography data was use as a reference data layer to enhance the linework attribution.

Dane County Land Information Office, Hydrography Lines 2005, Dane County (WI): Dane County Land Information Office, Madison, WI.

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

Data has been reviewed for accuracy and believed to be complete.

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

The data set meets the National Map Accuracy Standards for the scale 1:2,400 (or 1"=200'). The horizontal accuracy is +/- 6 feet for well-defined points, at a ninety percent confidence level. (Fly Dane Accuracy Report, Ayres Associates)

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

    Not applicable

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

The data set is 100% percent complete for 2005.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

The digital data set covers all of Dane County, WI, was created from breaklines identified during photogrammetric processing. The data set is topologically structured line data with no gaps or omissions.
