Why was the data set created?

This dataset was developed to delineate the law enforcement jurisdictional boundaries for Dane County. This data represents the known boundaries for purposes of dispatch and may not reflect the legal district boundaries. This information is intended for cartographic use, general spatial analysis and as a spatial index to land related information. It is not intended to replace any textual descriptions of the boundaries.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

    Source_Scale_Denominator: 2400

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    (process 1 of 7)
The dataset is based on the Dane County Municipal Boundaries layer. An table with law enforcement names and precincts is joined to the municipal boundaries by municpal name. The UW Police and Capitol Police jurisdicitions are polygon dataset that have been extracted from the Dane County Parcel data. These dataset are then merged with the Law Enforcement dataset.

The dataset is periodically updated as changes are made to the municpal boundary layer or due to correction made by the Dane County 911 Communications Center.
